Protecting Platypus in the Plenty River

Several pollution events have been recorded in Mill Park from an industrial precinct. These pollution events can compromise the health of local platypus populations in the Plenty River. The aim of this project is to install environmental sensors that can detect and report pollution events in real time. The real-time data from the sensor can be visualised below.

Led lights embedded into an interactive sign on-site will also change colour according to changes in water quality. An SMS can also be triggered to inform managers of water quality issues or pollution events. This project combines real-time data streams with passive education to keep the local community updated with the health of their creeks.
